Most people take for granted the way the body and mind work together to multi-task, following a complicated thought process or to even read this information. However, following a traumatic brain injury (TBI) the brains processing does not function at its best and you may see this as an inability to complete a thought or a simple task such as brushing your teeth. Of course, your symptoms depend on the location and severity of the injury, but many who suffer concussions, do not always notice the limiting effects of this condition. Symptoms of a Traumatic Brain Injury

TBI's occur when you receive an intense blow to the head. This can be a fall, a collision with another athletic player, during an auto accident or an injury at work in which something penetrates your head. If you have received an impact on the head, we ask that you get evaluated immediately by Dr. Dewberry to determine the extent of your injuries. Other than pain in the head or neck, other TBI symptoms include:

  • Confusion or dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Loss of consciousness even for a few seconds
  • Headaches
  • Extreme fatigue or sleeping more than typical
  • Mood changes or feelings of depression or anxiety
  • Sensitivity to lights, sounds, and smells

The more severe the injury, the more intense your symptoms and others may include bleeding from the ears or black eyes, depending on the location of the injury. You may also notice the inability to think clearly or a "zoned out" feeling. These symptoms require immediate treatment to avoid lasting TBI concerns.
